A new OUSE conductor is chosen yearly, with the auditions at the end of Michaelmas.
Current Conductor: Kieran Lamb
Kieran is a conductor, violinist, and percussionist in his Second year reading music at Magdalen College, where he is also a Demy and Music Scholar. He has studied conducting with John Traill and Cayenna Ponchione and has participated in conducting masterclasses with the Oxford Conducting Institute. As well as conducting OUSE Kieran has acted as the Assistant Director of Music of Gads Hill School, directing their percussion ensemble and their annual musicals, which in previous years have included Oliver! and Beauty and the Beast. He has also conducted in a Military Capacity: as Drum Major and subsequently Director of Music of the Corps of the Royal Engineers Gads Hill Detachment.
Kieran’s desire to conduct the String Ensemble stemmed from his background in the Violin. Having started studying at the age of 5 he acted as leader of numerous youth ensembles throughout Kent and was awarded 1st prize at the Gravesham Music Festival. In 2013 he gained a place at the Royal College of Music Junior Department where he played first violin in their Symphony Orchestra and was invited to join their Chamber Orchestra. Kieran performed at Music for Youth’s Primary Proms in the Royal Albert Hall, and in 2015 he was invited to join the Commonwealth Festival Orchestra performing for Her Majesty the Queen at Westminster Abbey for Commonwealth Day.
